GPRS completes full site locate and CAD in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was recently contracted to complete a full site investigation prior to excavation at a residence complex in Pittsburgh, PA.

GPRS was tasked by the contractor with locating any underground utility on site such as electric, communication, gas, storm, sanitary and water. We provide our locating services for both public and private properties. We provided the location of each utility with as much accuracy as possible and gave approximate depth where applicable. The technologies used on this project included the standard locating equipment (350 MHz antenna and EM locator). Please visit www.simspec.org for an overview of our industry-leading best practices that were applied to this project.

Utility Lines Found Using Radio Detection and GPR

Site photo one above shows a section in the proposed excavation area thate is crowded with utilities. In this small area you can see electric, water and storm all crossing. If the contractor would have started digging before calling us, they could have experienced major safety concerns and delays on this project. The second photo shows the non-survey grade CAD deliverable we were able to provide the client at the end of the project. With the Information provided by GPRS with approximate locations and depths of these utilities that ran through the proposed area of excavation, the client was able to review the specs of the project to safely work around our findings. Our services helped prevent any safety concerns or delays associated with hit lines.

Some of the utilities on site were located with both ground penetrating radar and radio detection. These were marked out with paint and approximate depths were provided. These lines are in the direct area of concern and our markings provide the client with valuable information while allowing them to know where extreme caution should be taken. Thanks to our diligent efforts to locate all visible nearby utilities we were able to ensure the contractor they would complete their project safely and without delay.

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. is very familiar with working closely with countless major commercial projects and contractors. Ground penetrating radar is a great tool to scan areas for post tension cables, rebar, and conduits, including PVC pipes. Ground penetrating radar can also be used to locate underground utilities such as water, gas, electrical, communication, sewer, and other objects prior to digging or excavating. We also offer additional deliverables including non-survey grade satellite image overlay and CAD reports of our findings.
